This is just an exaggeration of what sometimes happens to ants and other insects in rain forests.
A spore the the parasitic mushroom will attach itself to an insect such as an ant, moth, grasshopper, etc. Then, the spore moves to the brain of the insect making it act bizarrely, the other insects of its kind will usually know what's the fuck is going on and quarantine it in a remote part of the rain forest, The mushrooms then grows out of the back the insect, usually killing it in the process.
I think that's an amazing concept in nature, it's like a real-life zombie virus. :)
I have also noticed that scanning pictures tends to sap the soul out of them, you would have to see the hard copy of it for it to look any good.

Cordyceps has always been one of my favorite things out of nature. I'm glad someone else shares my love for this strange fungus.
And depending on what species of cordyceps it is, this isn't really an exaggeration, I've seen strains that completely overwhelm the insect host, but they are usually dead at that point :)
