Ix Chel - Still Alive

ABOUT THE MAYAN DEITY IX CHEL:

The Elder Mayan Goddess of Water, the Moon, Midwifery, Weaving, Medicine and more... As one of the elder, wiser gods, she understood the balance of creative and destructive forces; conception and realization; beginning and end.

Ix Chel was often portrayed with rabbits symbolic of the moon, pouring water from vases or jugs, and wearing/carrying snakes and flowers (snakes symbolic of wisdom and all knowing vision; flowers symbolic of procreation and childbirth).

Ix Chel was one of the few Mayan Gods that had relations with the nine Night Lords and/or Bolon Yakte (due to return to the world at the turn of the Great Cycle). This came from her lunar focus and properties.

Some Maya peoples celebrate Ix Chel's medicinal capacities on the sixth day of Chak'at (Sip).

All knowledge and interpretations of the Mayan Goddess Ix Chel will be well received. Share your knowledge of Ix Chel and let all know that Mayan concepts and ideas are Still Alive and embraced by our present generation!
