"Whilst waiting for the wash to dry, I used 2B pencil to add a few more details and shadows, the pupils in the eyes and outlining the lips. It occurred to me that I could have left the painting unfinished and it would have stood as a work in its own right, with rough edges and a contrast between detailed and specific sections and unfinished, rough washes and edges. I'll play around with it in other paintings, but I decided to go ahead and fully finish this one once it was dry."
