I finished this drawing a while ago, but I just never got around to posting it on Newgrounds. Been busy with school projects and homework and trying to keep my grades up for the first semester of my senior year. But here it is, lol.

I think one of the things I wanted to improve on when I started this picture was my painting and coloring skills, so I actually started this picture out a lot differently. I started it off with a background of Sakura trees, and I tried to make it look all pretty n stuff, but it just didn't work out. Then I made it like, all snowy and stuff, and I thought it looked fine, so I sketched out this girl with a scarf and finished the picture up like that. I still didn't really like how it looked though, so I was just playing around with settings and stuff, and eventually the background evolved into this, lol. I screwed around with it and trying to make it look more artsy and fancy.

I suppose my coloring didn't really improve, I kinda just, messed around lol. I tried to make my backgrounds better, but I also wanna see some improvement on my shading and making my clothing look a lot less plainly colored.

Also, I tried a new style of eye coloring. I dunno, the Kantoku eyes that I've always done didn't seem to fit. Wanted to try something new.

Hope you guys like it. Tips and advice are always appreciated.

This is a beautiful piece of artwork, but why wear a mini-skirt in chilly weather?

Twiddis responds:

Haha, who knows. She wants to look cute, I guess, lol.

First, the picture: it looks good. If the sweater is wrinkled and overlarge in the sleeves, I think it should probably be wrinkled and overlarge in the trunk as well. I see that you included an outline for the waistband of the skirt underneath the sweater; it is a detail that I think many folks wouldn't think about. The hands are more prominent on this one. Is that on purpose? You have drawn them well, so perhaps your practice is starting to pay off? Final bit about this picture: I can imagine a background that justifies the scarf and skirt at the same time. Snow outside of a window, and she has just opened a gift (indoors). The scarf could be that gift, and the blushing doesn't have to be from the cold, right? Now, general artistic advice: as far as improving on backgrounds... perhaps try drawing a picture that is only a background? It might help to imagine a scene that has its own merit, even without a character in it. Also, at least one of my artist friends practices coloring on black-and-white comic book scans. It is faster as you don't have to spend as much time planning an image before you color it, which helps him a lot since he is also a busy student. Of course, if you color someone else's lines it is important to give them credit for the original image. Anywho, keep the grades up and keep posting art! It makes me happy to see that you have a new piece.

Twiddis responds:

Thank you so much for your response! Sorry I never responded to you sooner. I guess I got kind of busy with end of the quarter-stuff, so I never really checked back on Newgrounds, and after the quarter was done, I guess I got kind of frustrated with some of the drawings I was doing afterwards and then I just got kind of lazy, lol. I love how much input and advice you give me on my drawings, they're really helpful. It's the whole reason I started to post stuff on Newgrounds in the first place. I'm getting back at it though, so hopefully I'll start getting better again. I just posted a new drawing to get myself back into it.

Thanks so much again for your response, and sorry that I never responded sooner!

Lovely. Though if it's cold enough for a scarf, why is she in a skirt?

Twiddis responds:

LOL, that's what I was thinking, even when I had the snowy background with snowflakes falling everywhere.

But I thought this looked cute so I left it like that.
