Here's a crude draft of the new Willow Wood cover illustration.
In school, my teachers and professors were convinced that I liked to draw using contours only because I didn't know how to convey volume, mass, receding or protruding planes. And you know what? HA.

I dig the cross hatching! And how you've framed it without the use of sharp edges.
I rather like drawing in contours myself...when I was younger I used to draw everything with tentacles and flowing hair like this. Constantly drew a court jester with a hat that was out of control and just flowing all over the place...
