Pencil drawing of building

Share

Here is a picture I drew whilst in a library, I saw a book on buildings and thought why not give it a shot, can't remember what building it is, French maybe? I thought I would give architecture a try as it does not interest me (portraits is more my thing) but want to stay open minded, and undertake all types of drawings to improve myself.

(Drawn in 2009)

Is is cool

love the detail u put on it
but the roofing on it looks kinds stange to me
but over all it good
way better than i can do

A bit rushed?

A good piece alltogether, but there are some minor changes you should make.

First off, this is archietecture, and even though architecture might very lively and organic, the lines should be completely straight, which they aren't in all cases on this piece. It's not symmetrical either, and it the perspective is a bit messed up. I suppose the middle section is pushed out, not in, but it looks like it falls into the building at that part.

The shading on the facade is pretty impressive, but the lighting and shading on the top looks a bit off, and the strokes of the pencil are a bit too protruding on the rooftops.

I just feel you could've spent some more time on this one, to make sure it was 100% complete.

Treborre responds:

Hey thanks for the constructive criticism, this was one of my first serious pieces, at the first time in my life sat down with patience and spent a lot of time on this piece (well by my standards!)

Can't remember how long exactly maybe 6+ hours, this was my first technical drawing and had no idea on how to draw just relied on my natural talent I suppose. When I got to the end of this drawing I got annoyed about certain areas and was pressing to hard with the pencil that rubbing out would make the piece worse so I continued to complete it and left the roof to last, hence the light source is wrong on it as you pointed out.

As this was an early piece I won't make any changes as I can look back at it to remind me off the errors of my ways, I am human and hopefully realise in the future I am constantly improving :-)
