Love is a fickle drug. It takes very little for someone to fall madly into love with anything, be it person, celebrity or object. Carlos happens to be a little more prone to this than most people.

Just as quickly as someone can fall in love with something, they can fall out of love again after the merest fault reveals itself. The slightest tarnishing of the once perfect veneer can mean that which was once cherished is now forever tainted. Again, Carlos is a little more prone to this than most people.

There really isn't any explanation for this. Something is awesome and irreplaceable, then it isn't. Then again, trying to explain most aspects of human behaviour, especially emotional attachment to things like shoes is a field studied by greater minds than mine. They might already have an explanation for this phenomenon, it's probably long and wordy with plenty of citations to obscure journal articles written by old men with impressive beards. Finding out seems like more hassle than it's worth.

So instead of bothering with reason, I just accept that it happens. Then have a quiet little chuckle to myself as Carlos buys himself another pair of identical shoes.
