@cloudandis, I think it's that way because of the clashing energy weapons and just to make it look more dramatic. I believe it's trying to emphasize the struggle between the two equal powers, where the only chance either has of winning is the moment their opponent makes that one fatal mistake that ends their life. (Whoa, that sounded dramatic)

I love the dynamic poses of the characters and the lighting, as well as the background image. They're all quite appealing. However, the contrast seems a bit too bright and overlayering of the characters. If you play a bit with contrast and lighting, you can make it look fresh as rain or dim as a bulb going out. Darken it up a little, but otherwise it's wonderfully done.
