the face...

there's this bit in Hot Fuzz, 'he had a BIG BUSHY BEARD.' The detail is extraordinary however, and although everyone's commented on the good shading on the body and the scars (which are very good), it's the wood pattern on the cross that is the best- You've got some realistic twists and knots in the wood that are impressive, rather than going for the standard cross shape + everyone uses. The problem you ran into was by making everything so detailed and using a great perspective, when you hit Jesus' head it almost jars even more.

However, Jesus as a neanderthal could be realistic. Maybe you are being realistic but we don't like his head because we see his glamourised angular face more often. Or, Jesus could have just been a really ugly guy, and lets face it, no ones going to be looking great come crucifixion.

The low score comes from the beard, the shape of his head, and the title (which I really don't think gives the picture any credit, and yes, I know the hand has super pointy devil-nails, but i think it would have had more power if you let the viewer realise that for themelves.)

I'm not giving it a low rating, but I do have some constructive criticism... it's mainly the face, like the others, not so much that it's neolithic looking or not skinny enough (although I agree with those) it's that it seems distorted to me, I think it's the placement of the shadow on the cheekbone...but I'm not a great artist myself. other than that, I really like it.

i wish that the forehead (brow-line) was less predominant so that he looked less like a neolithic man, and less facial hair with more of a boyish, skinny face. lmao, i feel like an asshole now.
