shading practice

Rated 3 / 5 stars

It's a pretty alright character, you've done pretty well man. I'd just say that the arm on the right looks a bit weird at the current moment; but overall your character has a sense of personality, looks quite cute with the style, and i think the background helps give a sense of space.

Your shading isn't too bad man, you've done well to try and blend your shadows to help give a sense of softness to your piece. I would just say though, that i think if you're going to blend one half of a shadow, it may benefit to shade the entirety of a shadow, as it looks a little weird to me with, for example, the shirt (lower right) where the belly is shaded softly, but then cuts really hard suddenly.

Another thing i would say is that you perhaps should draw an arrow to indicated a light-source while shading (on a separate layer) then attempt to visualize the way it'd hit your character; Because the shading here seems a tad confusing, it seems that the side of your character needs shading (to allude to the roundness).
