As It Crumbles

I miss TV. I miss playing video games. When the danger was fun and not real. Hell, I miss playing baseball in the park. I loved baseball.
I can't help but laugh at how much I took for granted...
I suppose it's all our fault to begin with, so I shouldn't complain... But still, I can't help but miss the finer things.
Hard to believe it's only been ten years since they woke up and the world has been reduced to ash.
Nothing science had to offer could've predicted this.
Some had said it would come as another flood, or maybe as a comet from a distant world...
These things, they don't really have a name, you can calle'm whatever you'd like I guess. They come from deep below the earths surface. At first we thought, "Hey, aliens." But from what little we've figured out- they've been here long before us.
We must've pissed off mother nature too many times. Hurricanes and tornadoes weren't enough to prove a point...
Military tries to fight them, but they just keep coming.
Most of us have just been living in hiding- they don't like us humans much.
I'm writing this because there is one outside of my house trying to get in. I'm going to go fight it but I doubt a wooden baseball bat will do much.
On the bright side- I get to aim for a home run one more time!
If you are reading this I am already dead but I thank you, it's just a small token I was once a live...
~your friend,
Mark

I came up with this story as I posted it. I kinda winged it. >_<; But either way- hope everyone enjoys it!
Also, I was heavily inspired by the artist *torvenius. I am deeply envious of his skill, and am greatly appreciative for him sharing his work and talents!!!

Wow that is just the most lovely premise for post-apocalypse I have ever heard.
Makes you wonder what the earth will ...degenerate(?) into with those things present.
