The one thing I want to point out is that the iris is supposed to be a cone so any shadows that fall in there are gonna follow those contours. Maybe you already knew that, but that's not the impression I got from this. I did a little edit:

I've always been a big fan of this color scheme so I love seeing these characters pop up.
I can't decide if I really like the way that the depth of his eyes work in this pic, but it caught mine.
I'd also like to see some more pronounced facial expressions in this kid. Wrinkles! Furrowed brows! Snarls!
PS: this might not be intended, but he almost looks like he has a puffy/cauliflower ear, and that ends up being neat.
