Monoliths

"And we are here.", the old dragonoid said in high spirits with a huff as they stepped atop a small round hill that rose above the immeasurably large marshlands. "Now I'll be settling down here for a few days, paying respects and to rest. I recon you wanted to cross the marsh so all you'd have to do is follow the monoliths that way." He points towards the horizon where you can already see several of the large constructs become smaller and smaller towards the horizon as the rain clouds flow away, allowing the structures in to show in their unobstructed grandeur. The sheer size of them making the younger dragonoid feel uneasy as he stops to stare at them. Wondering about their purpose and what brought them here, they obviously were not naturally formed, someone had to put them there, but for what reason, one could only wonder. He pulled out a sketchpad and began to draw one of the monoliths on it, the cold and moist wind still bearing hints of the passed rain making it a struggle to keep the paper in place. He didn't even notice as the older dragonoid had already built their tent behind him.
"Quite magnificent, are they not, you cannot get the same perception of them from paper however", the old dragonoid let out a dry chuckle as they looked at the constructs.
"Ever gone near one of them?", the younger inquired.
"Yes, several times in fact, may do that once more while I am here."
"Nobody has ever gone inside them, right?"
"No, not alive. We believe we are taken inside them after death and sent to the afterlife through them.",the younger one raised an eyebrow at the old dragonoids answer and turned towards the elderly while their eyesight was still fixated on the constructs.
"So you praise them, as like divines of sorts?", The elderly dragonoids eyes finally moved away from the monoliths.
"It is a bit more complicated than that, but yes, in essence, we do pay tribute to them."
"I see, very interesting.", they younger dragonoid turned away from the elder and back towards the monoliths to look at them.
"Once again, if you follow the monoliths that way towards the horizon, you should reach your destination within a few days, nothing really lives here in these marshes so you do not even need to worry about wild animals while on your way. The swamps should also provide you with plenty of berries and herbs to keep you on your feet."
The younger dragonoid turned back towards the elder and lowered their head in a slight bow of appreciation, "Thank you, I appreciate the help."
