While most forms of the amalgamate are designed with the intent to spread, gatherers instead focus on amassing biomass for already existing broods. Often seen with insect like wings they travel away from the broods in search of biomass from untainted areas, these types of amalgamate becoming common and very common once an area is thoroughly tainted. From the surrounding area they will gather plants and anything organic into themselves and carry it to the brood, including people, all the while invariably spreading the amalgamate to the places they go to. They are usually more simple minded due to their simplistic task. Despite being capable of flight they tend to use their wings more for hovering for short distances and climbing up things rather than flying over them, especially when carrying something. Often seen in swarms they are a sight one does not want to see looming near the treeline.
