On December 28th, 2015, Lemmy Kilmister died from a terminal cancer, just four days after he turned 70. I found out through Ozzy's Facebook page after he shared an old photo of himself with Lemmy, saying that he was shocked to find out his passing, and so was I. :(
I really wanted to see Motorhead live for a while, and was elated when I got to see them on September 12th in Detroit when my dad suggested taking a road trip there, because it had been quite a while since we visited my dad's state where he was born. We were pretty lucky to see them, and aside from Motorhead, we also saw Crobot and Anthrax open up.
When I had heard about Lemmy's death, I was a bit sad, but upset, considering the health problems I had heard he had since mid-2013, so I saw his death coming. Nobody lives forever. :shrug: Still, since a couple of days ago, I definitely feel a hole in the music I'm used to seeing live. :(
After hearing about Lemmy's death, I decided to make a piece of fan art as tribute to him. It would have been appropriate at times like these to give him a pair of angel wings and a halo, but it wouldn't really be appropriate, considering that he's irreligious like me. Couldn't resist making the background look like stained glass and use shading to make Lemmy look like a holy god though. ^^;
Since this isn't page 20 of my sketchbook, this is #21, and I will try to get #20 and the two others done, sorry bout that. ^^;
Here's some of my personal favorite quotes from him. You can find more here:
"Fuck god and fuck the devil. And fuck the church too. I'm responsible for my own actions. I don't need to hide behind nothing. The devil didn't make me do it, I did it...whatever I did."
"The only interesting thing about religion is how many people it's slaughtered."
"I don't think it's fair to be waving your dick around when people are minding their own business and might not want to see it."
"If you're going to be a fucking rock star, go be one. People don't want to see the guy next door on stage; they want to see a being from another planet."
"If you you think you're too old for rock'n'roll, then you probably are."
"You know the main thing in life? A sense of humor. Lose that, you're done. You might as well blow your fucking brains out."
"I don't do regrets. Regrets are pointless. It's too late for regrets. You've already done it, haven't you? You've lived your life. No point wishing you could change it."
"I don't see why there should be a point where everyone decides you're too old. I'm not too old. And until I decide I'm too old, I'll never be too old."
"Apparently, people don't like the truth, but I do like it; I like it because it upsets a lot of people. If you show them enough times that their arguements are bullshit, then maybe just once, one of them will say, "Oh! Wait a minute - I was wrong." I live for that happening. Rare, I assure you."
"Born to lose. Live to win."
"Death is an inevitability, isn't it? You become more aware of that when you get to my age. I don't worry about it. I'm ready for it. When I go, I want to go doing what I do best. If I died tomorrow, I couldn't complain. It's been good."
