Mecanical insect - color

Share

A photo painted over in photoshop, the photo was taken from plastiline sculpture I did previously (see my other work if you wanna see it) and set to grayscale. I did this to set general look of textures, before creating them for the 3D model..

A bit weird I guess, only half is actually detailed, I would appreciate comments and help on the colors/texture.

It is supposed to be half insect, half machine (well, I guess more insect eh).. hope you like it.

thank you

Really cool !!!

HO ! THIS IS A MEGA INSECT !

pretty cool

hey i like the texture, but not the colors the main color is ok but I do not like the black at all. Especially how it is outlining the shapes in some areas. I do like the deeper brown color I think you should just change the black to a deeper brown. Also the antenna should change I don't know to what though. Very cool sculpture.

DarkSword responds:

yeap, you are right! Thanks for the review, but unfortunately the project was cancelled, I will start over and do something else.. : )

Nice

The piece is very interesting; I don't know enough about the medium to give advice on the texture, but I'd be happy to try to help work out issues with the color. At the moment, it looks very much like some sort of crustacean evolved to survive on a beach somewhere, but I'm not seeing much evidence in favor of it being even a quarter machine. The eyes are creepy, yes, but culturally red eyes indicate "HEY DUDE, I'M EVIL" more than "I'M A MACHINE".

If it were my project I'd consider switching the red to the stoplight green used for electronics, and try to push the entire shell a little more in the blue green direction- I don't know what paints you're using, but if they were acrylic or oil I'd transfer your design as is, then run a very thin blue green glaze over the top just to tone down the sandiness of the color scheme.

DarkSword responds:

Thanks for the excellent review, I'm totally agreeing on eye color, it was already changed! For machine look, it's true that it doesn't look too much like a machine, but I guess it would still fit into the story. I had much trouble designing this, so I guess it's OK for my skill level.. ^_^ i'll do better next time. Thanks for color info, appreciated!

Oh, btw, there is nothing of paint on this, it's a digital picture of the sculture, and then colored and textured in photoshop, just to give approximation of 3D texture on the final 3D model.. : )

with a little help of my friends..

the details seem to be a little rough. the red eyes makes it kind of boring. i rather you change the eye color to blue-gray or somewhat like that.

the idea is really great and overall looks are nice too.
i'd like to see the final product.
+1 for the cracks/scretches on the claws.

DarkSword responds:

yeah details are a bit crude, hopefully I'll put more time in the final texture/shader.. it's true the eye color could be more interesting, even if I like the pattern in them.. : ) will definitely try improving it!

thanks, really appreciated

cool man.

awesome!
