Idol

I'm trying a more artistic approach in digital, moving away from design. This piece is striving to symbolize the human naivety when comes to religion across the ages.

What...is this? I have no idea, but it's an absolute masterpiece. I can't help but thinking it was meant to symbolize something. Here's what I think of. I think it means how we idolize people, but it will only lead to our own destruction. Who we idolize becomes stronger and more evil, was that it?

Whatever the intention, I love this picture. You just have absolutely no idea what's going to show up next. It's a big picture, so you scroll it down. Now that I look at it, I think it's more about time. That doesn't really fit in with the title, though. Whatever, it's fantastic!

reminds me of the monster from gorillaz

That is very interesting and the detail is quite amazing. I like the hour-glass idea behind it. As amazing as this is though, the background could have had a little more work done to it...I realize that may be intentional, but in my opinion it kinda just seems lazy. xD

Sulup responds:

I like to express an important idea as simple as possible. My opinion is that any background would only distract from the subject matter here. There are other works that I reserve detailed backgrounds for :)

A stunning piece, with a stirring premise and an equally stirring delivery.
The powerful contrast of shape, size and texture of the two figures really drives the concept deep into the bedrock of the brain - doubly so when it is explained and the viewer knows what everything is meant to represent.
The vastness and unknowability of the great black figure - especially in comparison to the frailty of the woman praying, practically unnoticed, at its back, is beautiful to behold. The two impossibly round circles behind it place it in a space beyond the woman - beyond her reach, and beyond her ken.
If nits must be picked, then there is perhaps some roughness to the 'feathers' pluming off of the entity's back and arms, where a little more detail and refinement to make them look more feather-like may have served the piece - and people who like to look at details - well. But the boldness and consistency of the style make this is a middling, pedantic issue at the very best.
It's a great piece - well done.
