:EDIT: it didn't sell :C

i finally buckled and decided to post the images that i'll be selling as prints for the 'o9 comic con art show, but so as not to gip the actually LUCKY PURCHASERS of my stuff, these have been reduced.

Abel, the fleshier half of the duo in the image right of this. although he isn't by much, in a long story he doesn't have any limbs and those orange extensions are meticulously designed retractable prosthetics, forged from some unknown copper-coloured metal presumably.

great detail, great physics, great everything. a little emo, I didn't really know you had a dark style like this at times. many of your pieces are this dark. well I like it a lot, very awesome. smashing backgrounds as well. everything's top-north.

by the way, if you'd made the monster into the Dad character and the hero guy mario or pico or whatever, you'd be getting more attention. but from me you wouldn't. I'LL ALWAYS BE IN YOUR (not unoriginal styled) HEART!

Your art is absolutely incredible.
Epic.
Awesome.
I could come up with a lot of other words, but I don't feel like it. I feel like getting prosthetic limbs and fighting grey, fleshy beasts.

"2 questions"

-#1.) Exactly who's arm is that? and #2.) Is it still attached to his/her/it's body? Besides those confusions the rest of the painting seems pretty straight-forward: a futuristic bad-ass slicing up some some giant, alien-like monster. My only problems with this piece is the unnatural expression on Abel's face and the impossibilty of most of Abel's body being around the Beast's shoulder and yet said Beast somehow bendind it's arm so that it is a little bit in FRONT of Abel's body. Then again, I am not familiar with this monster's particular anaotomy. Overall an excellent picture from an excellent (and admittedly very funny) artist. 5/5 10/10

Author's Response:

futuristic? yea, the depth is off, i should have probably removed the monster's thumb altogether, and i had screwed up the dpi so it was very hard to put detail to his face. excuses aside, thanks, and the deal with the arm is - the way i figured it - that the monster is some kind of occult manifestation of a past regret. it has a smaller parasite clinging/growing out of its underbelly. in its past life it could have been a mother that failed to protect its child, a pair of siblings that met an untimely end, etc. but really i did want it to be very vague and let people draw their own conclusions.

That I'm not the only one who noticed that 1. He has no eyes. 2. He has a random arm across his belly. and 3. The fingers and toes on the ground CURVE. (on the monster, of course)

I still like this art, though it is a bit confusing. Nice work. And, if this is reduced, I probably would buy the complete one. Only thing is, I couldn't make it to the ComicCon, and now, if I were to buy one, I'd probably have to do it online, and I have no credit card.

I love everything about this. The color scheme is perfect, the way the red of the legs offsets the natural green of the piece makes the protagonist stand out, and the gray of the monster helps put the interesting legs of the character in front of it very well. The top side lighting is intricate and well thought out too. It really makes the line between traditional and digital painting much closer. This is what digital painting should be. My only beef with the whole thing is that the color of the character's face might need a bit more color to it, as to differentiate between it and the monster a bit more, since it is already much more colorful, but that is just my eye and I can't say that that isn't the natural color of the character. Either way, totally fav'd.

Author's Response:

yea, i did want to drop his skin palette alot because his body has gone through the changes of...life? life as in, kidnapped and having his limbs sold to black market alien traders and having them replaced with artificial relics from gods long past and then escaping into the woods while he loses his mind hunting undead monsters.

thanks!

Wouldn't expect anything less, that monsters spine is epic!

Although the foreshortening looks weird in his left arm, maybe it's that his hand looks a tad small so the whole arm just comes off as really tiny.

July 22, 2009

Author's Response:

you mean Abel? yea, its hard to understand within the context of this picture, but it is retracted somewhat, like the sickles start at the elbows and knees, so the arm pulls back to that point.

Fucking A.
-The setting is a beaut, I love the leaves up high and on the floor (altho they're different?) and the illumination of the scene.
-The character has beautiful costume, and colours and really creative, the leg slicing through the monster!
-And that monster! One of your grey sacks of muscle, I love the freakish face, the claw like hand, the ridge of claws and that out of place human arm - which reminds me of a supernatural photo that creeps me right the fuck out. I love it.

Long ass review.
Summary: original fantasy, great composition, great characters.

Phew.

July 22, 2009

Author's Response:

yes, he is one of MY GREY SACKS OF MUSCLE. the monster was totally an afterthought, i just basically looked at how much room i had to fill and threw in all sorts of stupid monster cliches to fill it out.

yea. i know the leaves are wrong but it felt so very right.
