I had a lot of fun painting this picture. It was not an ACTUAL reference from a game in terms of composition but different elements from mario have been thrown in.
This is for an upcoming commercial campaign which revolves around gaming (i cant say too much!!). I thought it would be awesome to have a mario level, but with a dark feel to it, but keeping the vibrance and strong colours mario games have :D

Wow
Just wow, that is amazing, the only thing that is missing is a fitting badass mario
Haha the campaign is for gamers, so we are deliberately keeping the main characters out of the game or I would have put him in too :)
