the cocktopus (sorry mom) is an intensely territorial creature. He spends most of the day patrolling his stretch of sand, viciously armwrestling any intruding males seeking to steal away his harem. The relatively demurely coloured hens sit on their tidepool nests, their mottled plumage blending in with the speckled rocks.

Not really a good splicing

It just looks like someone put an octopus on the head of a cock. If instead of feathers at the back it had tentacles or the feet were tentacles and the head looked like an octopus head it would be cooler. But as it is it just looks like a cut and paste job on two animals. I realise it isn't like that, but it looks like that. Either way the detail is pretty good, especially on the cock. And i don't think it can crow, depends on how much of the head is octopus and how much is cock. lol cocktopus.
