Bowfen is another main character of the book I'm writting "By the Sword." As you might have guessed he is a dwarf. In the beginning of the story Bowfen though young for a dwarf has been through heaps and caused massive changes, for better or worse among his people. For very intense reasons he left his home and travelled to the town of Lit'marahiew and has lived there for forty one years.
The picture is of Bowfen in his battle armour. It's a full metal jacket made out of ingenious interconnecting steel plates, a dwarven crafting technique. The massive warhammer or maul has huge significance. It's called the world forge hammer, the most sacred, legendary and powerful weapon known to the dwarves, It was the world forge and world forge hammer that were used by the ancient dwarven king to split the continents. This was to separate all the major races to avoid the first world war. It happened thousands of years ago and the event is completely forgotten. The fact that Bowfen possesses the hammer is the reason for all the turmoil he caused among his kin and why he chose self inflicted exile. Once the hammer has an owner, no one else can even lift it. If Bowfen knew how to control the hammer he would be an unstoppable force, but he doesn't. He's only had glimpses of power from it when he has used it, and that was powerful enough to level a mountain.
I love this picture, it gave me plenty of opportunity to explore the dwarven cultural designs I will use in my story. I really wanted him, his armor and weapon to look dwarven. I focused on strong symmetrical patters and edges.
