Self Portrait

Share

This is my newest self portrait. I had three light sources, they are red, blue, and green. I made this with color pencils. I am glad on how it turned out and I think I can say that it is the best thing I have made so far :]. There are a few parts that I don't like but maybe it is not too noticeable. :/

Very nice picture all around. I thought that the background that you used actually went with the picture quite well, but updating to add a background will also be pretty cool as well.

My favorite part would have to be the color that you used in your shirt. I felt that that area of the picture was done rather well and is the best part of the picture. I also enjoyed the way the hair was very fitting with the entire thing.

I love the way the face is pointing, but it seems to be shaped quite odd and not like it would appear in a real picture or in real life. The right side of the face (when looking at it not your actually right side) it the side that seems to be shaped odd.

The left side eye also seems to be shaped unrealistically and doesn't fit with the picture overall. I wasn't too thrilled about the color used in the face, but I really don't know what I would recommend to make that better either so I can't say too much about it either.

All in all though I feel that you did quite a good job.

Sorry I probably should of updated on the author's comments that I actually did add the background which is that black one. So this whole piece is finished now and is going to be entered into a contest my teacher told me to participate in. I also did not like the face as much as the rest of the drawing. The left eye is one of the parts that I was mentioning in the author's comments that I did not like. To me it is very noticeable but hopefully it is not too bad. Thanks for writing a review and I am glad you liked it.

Intresting

The eyes are the first thing I noticed here, mostly because of the white sparkle looking thing. I don't mean to get a little picky here but it all looks a little too smooth to me, I like things to be sharp and stand out, like the eyes in this, the hair looks good too, that's all just personal taste though.

The colour is very nice, I like abstract colours, even abstract art but I don't think this falls into that. The colours all work well and if you are going to add in more to the background, make sure it's slightly dark, I think a light background would divert attention away from the main picture. The blue swuve going into the red side of the face is good though, I like that.

The background looks lighter here for some reason, I dont know why. In real life the background is a little darker than this. The blue in the red was such a pain to do and it was the last part I did. I was so afraid of doing it ever since I started but once I started doing it, the rest just followed. I am glad you liked it, thanks for leaving a review :]

Not quite Picasso

I can see that there have been elements of throwing interesting shapes into the piece and this can make it look a little distorted, thus removing a little of the realism from the piece as a whole.

I like how the shading works with the coloured pencils and it picks out great details, such as your moustache and the incredible detail of your hair. I think that there could be better work done with the background, but it's certainly a very nicely detailed piece, which shows of some accomplished work.

Did you have the light sources working and then a webcam for the picture, of did you do it via a mirror, for example?

My art teacher took a picture of me next to these three different colored lamps. So yea it was just a photograph that I was working with. I agree about the picture coming out somewhat wacky with the sections that are dividing my face, I could have done better. The fact that you called my art a "very nicely detailed piece" makes me want to make another one! Thanks for the review! :)

Very good

A very good self portrait. I especially like the hairs and the hoody. They have very great details.

The face looks a bit strange due to the different light sources on the left and on the right half of the face. It now looks as if the red side is a bit swollen. This impression is amplified by the small blue area on the left side of the face (well, it's the right side from my point of view, actually it's the right half of the face ^^).

Anyway, overall this is a very good self portrait!

Thank you. The hair is one of the things that my art teacher pointed out as the best thing on there. This is my first time doing something like this so I was a little worried about the face. When I did it, it came out O.K. but there are a couple a flaws on there. I learned a lot from making this so I will do better next time. Sorry for the bad quality because it was too big for the scanner so I took a picture from my phone. Thanks for the compliments and the advice. I appreciate your criticism.

Cool Man...

Yay!!Nice picture, but very weird...

The left eye have a big space between the other eye (I don't know if you are like the draw) but it scared me...

The colors are nicely aplicated, the hair is nice, too.

Only a question, is that a mustache or not??
Anyways... nice drawing man, but u can do better, try hard and u'll reach higher levels every drawing!!

Thanks man! Yea that is a mustache. It looks weird I know but I did it anyway. I wish I took the picture after I shaved, oh well. I think it looks great though. I agree with the left eye thing, that's is one of the things that bothers me but i'll get it next time. Thanks for taking the time to write a review.
