Admiral Adama

So a friend of mine got me started on a show called Battlestar Galactica. I realize I'm way late on the whole series, but it was great to watch. I finished the series in about two months or so (buying a season every once and awhile when I had the spare change).

After finishing it, I wanted to draw a fan picture. Seeing as Admiral Adama was easily my favorite character, I decided to draw him.

It's been a long time since I've tried to draw anything realistic; and I wasn't very good at it to begin with. This was more or less a jump start in to more possible works. I'm not the best, but I'd like to think I'm alright.

Any other fans of the series? Perhaps any recommendations for other series similar to it?

Also, before anyone comments on it: Yes, I know I'm terrible at drawing hair. I used the burn tool along with it's counterpart to do some basic shading, and then came back in with white lines, and then black. If you know of any good tutorials on hair, let me know! Or feel free to let me know if there are other major problems. I'm sure there are, ha!

You should be proud

There's room to make this even better, which is why I have given an 8. As you said the hair is a bit lacking, and I agree with an earlier comment about making the hair more of a mass, rather than a bunch of strands which makes what should be neat hair seem quite messy. The best bits of this drawing is the clothes and the area around the eyes and glasses. They've been done extremely well and I can't imagine an improvement on them. The lighting is excellent, and so is the face in terms of proportion and the accuracy of the expression.

I love it!

You say that you are no good at hair, but it was the hair that caught my eye (in a good way) first. I can almost image speaking to this drawing.

you have a good start

try to not blend so much. IDK if your using corel painter or PS. But blending too much always makes it look at little too fake ( skin wise ). Also try to dipict the hair by more of a mass than drawing each strand. Pratice pratice :)
