Well, after a very long time I actually plucked up the will and courage to draw something and feed it to the ever-so-hungry critiques of the NG universe. And here it is! I decided to do a bit of work in pen and practised some shading and anatomy work. I didn't use a reference so I'm very proud of how this turned out.

Well, I hope you all like it and won't bite my head off about some details I may have gotten wrong.

pretty good without references

I know alot of strong artists that still use references, so don't worry about that you should still use them. i myself have folders and folders of reference photos .

About the picture it self if you can notice what you see as errors in your own work your heading in the right step in getting better.

A Critique of the work if you dont mind : Although the anatomy is off, some of the things are correct, if you were to drop the portion from her buxom to the head down at the bend where her rib cage is i would fix the look alot.

Really thats the major problem in the picture, but anything else just needs to be touched up, like the leg and shading but other wise its a good piece.

Safst3r responds:

Thanks for the review, yeah i can see what you mean. I agree about the leg too : /
I'm still learning how to shade but right now I'm focusing on anatomy. This review helps alot, thanks.

ok

this ok. I am always glad to see people getting into anatomy studies. I'm in figure drawing myself right now. what this looks like is that you are getting the forms right, but not the relationships between them, which messes with the proportions. the raised leg is short, head small, torso a little long. i don't see a lot of sketching under this, probably cause you just started at it in pen which is fine. you should think about doing some in pencil

i advise not following those "how to draw" things. they are technically right but its not a good habit. try checking out pose maniacs website or get people to pose for you if you can, just for 5 minutes even. draw three volumes, the head, the ribs and the pelvis and base the length by the size of the head. then build up on that drawing. start with line drawings and then when you nail proportions try shading. its tough but keep with it

the anime face isn't my cup of tea but its whatever in the end, most people do more simplistic faces on drawings of full figures anyway.

Safst3r responds:

Thanks for the feedback, I can see what you mean with all of the things you pointed out, I don't really follow "how to draw" tutorials or wahtever and this is my first attempt at drawing from imagination and without a reference to help me. Personally I didn't think the face was that anime like but thanks for pointing it out.

I'll try to draw based on the "three volumes" thing you mentioned. Thanks for the review.

beutaful

this drawing is great and awesome.... this dude aint got no pancake mix

Safst3r responds:

Thanks lol. No pancake mix? damn! oh well... least I got cookies :3

Anime is a waste of time

Damn conformist

Safst3r responds:

I think that you shouldn't waste your time looking at what you don't like and grinding it down to a meager remark of how it's so common. Try to focus on the aspects of the drawing which I had put more effort into, like the shading or the anatomy perhaps. If you don't have anything constructive to say then don't say anything at all.
