Thunderbird Pharah - Overwatch

Share

Made this Haida-inspired Thunderbird Pharah entry for the #OverwatchContest on Twitch! Judging starts on June 10th! (Wish me luck!!)

The eagle in the background is very closely referenced from the work of Robert Davidson, a pacific northwest coast Canadian Aboriginal artist. Original here: http://www.spiritwrestler.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=48&products_id=7985

I've always been a huge fan of the traditional formline art style because it reminds me a lot of my childhood home in New Aiyansh British Columbia. While I lived there, my dad was adopted into the Eagle clan (which is the design shown in the background), so I combined the imagery with Pharah's evidently Aboriginal-inspired Thunderbird skin.

This style of art really doesn't appear often in mainstream media, so I was REALLY REALLY pumped when I saw that they chose to represent a culture that I'm so fond of--even if Pharah herself is Egyptian.

Hope you guys like it!!

Oh, and follow my Twitch channel if you're into that kinda stuff - I usually stream on Sundays and Mondays! https://www.twitch.tv/sabtastique

Wow! This is very awesome. I am 1/2 first nation but a different kind. I'm Tlingit, which is very similar to Haida. The art styles they have are almost the same because Tlingits and Haidas were always friends.

This reminds me of my old school, wineteer. Its symbol was the thunderbird

good detail,, proportions, and color scheme
also ya, non sexual over-watch fan art

One of the coolest alternate costumes in the game. Great use of colors, really well done.

Awesome rendering!! Was this done digitally? It looks like traditional colored pencil (or is that the traditional formline style you mentioned?)

Sabtastic responds:

Nope, all digital! :)
I sketched it out in pencil while planning it, but that layer didn't make it to the final pass.
