Anglerfish Ovary

Share

A 22x17.5" charcoal and coloured chalk pastel piece I did for a project in school.

And yes...! That's what an anglerfish's ovary looks like under a microscope!

Ever heard of the golden ratio? It's a really cool thing to look up when it comes to nature. You see it in seashells, sunflower seeds, flowers, vines-- this picture would also be a really cool, microscopic example. It's a naturally occurring spiral formation with a neat little mathematic formula.

The sad part about this picture is, it's currently wrecked... :(
I used a spray fixative to seal in all the dust and chalk from the pastel+charcoaol, but the bright, vivid colours got completely sucked into the deep blacks of the conte! :( ...It's just a really dark, muted muddy picture now... </3

... Luckily I managed to grab a photo BEFORE I went and ruined it. There are much more vivid colours in this version.

Also: photo reference used. (google it)

It looks a lot like an Octopus tentacle that's curled up.

Sabtastic responds:

I knowww.. I kinda liked this one, too. I was thinking of framing it and giving it to somebody. :(

It's awesome, I ruined one of my paintings once with a fixative spray, so I know the feeling :(
BTW, it reminds me the back of the Surinam Toad xD

Sabtastic responds:

Aww, you too? :C
It's honestly the worst feeling ever. Especially after hours of working on whatever it was.

ALSO BLEUGH SURINAM TOAD :V

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear your art was ruined especially since that looks so fantastic! I like how you make it look so detailed with chalk. Chalk can be a nightmare to use!
