Not trying to be dirty minded, but it looks like it was inspired by the female and male sex organs, the flower has a little cluster of eggs and two ovary leaves and then the "flower". haha either way, if that is the case they are pretty cool looking genitals
My high school biology books are always a big inspiration, so that could very well be, haha. I've also just been very into botany lately, so it all adds up.
