The Harvest Pilgrimage

Share

Finished illustration of my last work.

I was inspired by Yondalla, a deity in the D&D Greyhawk setting. In our D&D setting, these halfling soldiers are part of a volunteer group of one hundred spiritual men and women, who make a pilgrimage across two hundred miles of halfing lands to observe the sacred harvest taking place, and to help protect it from goblins and other foul creatures that would try and steal the fruit of the halfing's labor. The task of traversing such a huge distance is amplified the smallness of halfing's, and the heaviness of the military gear carried with them. But they are not deterred by these disadvantages. In fact, aside from the occasional few who are wounded or killed in combat, nearly every pilgrim in halfling history has completed the long and exhausting journey. Instructed on the sacredness of their journey at length beforehand, they are driven on by a strong sense of purpose. The pilgrims are a welcome sight to the halfing people, and they are greatly respected in every town, village and rural community they pass by or rest in.

Bright, colorful, detailed... a decidedly un-warlike scene. As a farmer, I can appreciate the thought that went into this piece, just hope I won't need their services, should things take a turn for the worse.
