I know her legs are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaay too long....I'd fix them but I vexelled this not vectored so there's NO GOIN' BACK D:
...well I can redraw it but I am lazy lazy lazy...and her arms are too thin...yeesh! I take every comment to heart though so thank you...
done in ps7 in about an hour USING ONLY A TRACKPAD. that's that little thing on the laptop that you drag your finger over to move the cursor. i don't own a mouse or a tablet XD
The People Have Spoken
Average Score: 8.8 / 10
Saying a chicks legs are too long or her breasts are too large is something that is only a problem in the real world...actually they are pretty long...still totally hot though and also suits your style quite nicely.
Very good, but the skirt was not short enough.
Nice! :D
John K would be proud....
I'm a sucker for 1950's style cartooning though, so I might be bias in your favor.
Only minor thing is the red dots behind the rocket break their trail when they go behind the woman. Other than that, very nice.
Author's Response:
oh yes the blank spot behind her shoulders...I didn't notice that, thanks :O
are you implying something with the red rocket going off? (raises i brow and rofl smiles :D)
Author's Response:
nooooo it's just a rocket that's red ;)
if YOUR rocket is red you might want to see your friendly neighborhood doctor ;)
I love art like this. I find the blend of sharp edges and curves always a delicate balance - but something that you pulled off perfectly in this portrait. Often I find artists who attempt this style to have either too much angles or too little. It's like the ol' 'cartoon network' treatment I call it. And even they didn't quite get it right in my opinion.
But her legs are so long, it starts to become scary. It starts to look like you've literally taken a normal-ish portrait and stretched the lower half on purpose. I get the idea of extreme proportions - I actually like to see how far artists can stretch such realities without forsaking realism - but this is a tad too far. Just a little. I guess the illusion of extremism is created due to the fact that at the knee joint, the shin goes even longer. So you've got body, and thighs (long), and then shins (longer) given the 'stretched' illusion. And it's abit much. I've seen your other artwork and I think there is more balance in the others while still maintaining the 'disproportionate' cartoon style without abandoning realism.
The slight rip in the skirt is a nice touch. I like it alot. It's not too drastic that it draws too much attention to itself, yet it's well placed to give it less monotony and avoids symmetry.
The thing that lets it down is the attention to detail in the hands. I know it's a relatively small part of the portrait in general, but I think you should treat the hands as you did the face. Simply because those are the only parts that share the same tone, they tend to stick out of the portrait a little more. And given the slightly more 'organic' look in the facial features, the fingers look incredibly amateurish by contrast. It's a small thing to fix, but it actually affects the portrait as a whole.
Cartoons are actually some of the hardest things to get perfectly right in my opinion simply because of that balance between stretching reality creatively, and just forsaking realism completely. You've done a good job of finding a place close to that middle ground.
Kudos for that.
Author's Response:
I do need to fix the legs, the thing is I vexelled this, not vectored so it's virtually impossible for me to be able to go back and fix that without some really interesting jpeg artifacts all over the place...unless I want to stop being lazy and go back and RE DRAW DEM GAMS....
I tried to do a Butch Hartman style with this one...and he draws his hands like golf clubs...I think that this was the last drawing I did with the hands being like that actually and this is fairly old.
Thank you for the review. I realized a few months ago that the legs were too long when I made her bend foward in my mind and it'd be physically impossible for her to touch her toes.
It seems you share the same style as the intro of the incredable/concept art...
Author's Response:
Yes and no, it's not quite like that style yet but I have been practicing it (and my fiancee) XD thanks
Cool, Your art is awesome! Your really moving up in the Art Portal, You deserve it to!
I love your art style, there's just something about it that really grabs my attention and doesn't let go.
Your artwork is very simple but majestic. I can't really think of it anything wrong with it besides the legs, and that's very miniscule. Keep up the good work, PixelCake.
I'm glad this got front paged. Great job. :) I've been looking at all your art and I'm impressed! Anyways as said i love the simplicity, less is more for sure, how long did this take you?
Author's Response:
Most of my work takes about an hour but I am using a trackpad ^^;
draw a bit more detailed version? this is hawt!!1
But seriously, this picture is nice. In its own way and style its very clean and interesting. I like your work, keep it uppy!
Author's Response:
Thanks but I'm not sure where I could throw in more detail XD
you know you reallt know hoe to meke the simple thing into a beutiful master piece (well for me its a exellent work of art) and if i can guess i bet you were inspired with somthing like a spy movie or somthing like that... well besides that i think you will be a exellent inspiration for ather people by the simplicity of things that can make beutiful pieces of art.
Kinda long isnt it hehehe well in other word I LOOOVE IT heheheh
I dont think it is that good if u would haf made the legs a bit shorter i would haf looked a bit better and i doesnt really look finished
But the logo with the rocket looks nice
I know ur aiming for simplicity but it doesnt look right to me if u would haf made it a bit more basic or detailed it would have looked alot nicer but now it just feel like a sort of in between if u know what im trying to say
Oh and for u RyonaRaine u have no right to call those people with the down votes 'ignorant and moronoic' art is something u can only have opnion about it may seem art to you but it can be total crap to another
Author's Response:
I don't know what language you're speaking....do you have a poor-English to English translator handy?
Nicely done Viva, simple but eye catching. Cant really criticize on anything here, since I don't really see anything to criticize on :v. the legs do look a bit long though, but that doesn't take anything away from the picture itself. 10/10
PS: this is why I LOVE newgrounds, all the retards that give something a low score and give absolutely no reason for the low score/give some half assed preference they would of preferred to see. For those retards: Art doesn't have to be complicated, so stop bitching about how you would prefer to see something complicated and review the ACTUAL image, not what you would have liked to see.
I love it! I really like the way she looks. Very cute and pretty. This artwork is a fine example of beauty in simplicity. It really is quite lovely :)
Oh, and I'd like to comment on all the idiotic down-voters who wouldn't know true art if it kicked them in the balls. You're all douchbags. You have absolutely no artistic intelligence what so ever, and there for your ignorant and moronoic comments and insulting low votes are not needed here.
Author's Response:
Well I don't believe in censoring people even if I don't like what they're saying, but a little less ignorance would go a long way ;) thanks!
beautiful legs :<> !!!
The composition and style of art allow it to be effective with its simplicity. There is a lot of context; relating to the clean and retro-futuristic feel out of the 60's and 70's. would give it a 10 but the thing on her leg stands out as unfinished. I know the detail wouldn't work if it were at a great amount, but i feel that it needs to be defined to what it is. BTW Nein is a product of too many exploding cartoons.
Nicely done. Goes to show you don't need an entire palette, rainbow, or box full of noise to catch someones attention.
Awful name for a picture, especially one which features a woman.
Anyone who has a dog will understand.
I also hate how simple your are is.
Sure, it may look pretty, but it's boring! This takes about as much creativity as addition.
Author's Response:
Red Rocket Tours was a charity tourgroup I did on FusionFall.com for a week, with the fake tour company being named "Red Rocket" in honor of Mandark. I originally edited out all of the fancy-pants text I had underneath it to make the character stand out more as if it was a refrence sheet.
What's your point about a dog? I don't quite get what you're saying.
I'm sorry my "are" isn't detailed enough for you...but just because it's simple doesn't make it bad and I mean any art in general. The whole point of retroness is SIMPLICITY SIMPLICITY SIMPLICITY: basic shapes, colors, etc with some stylistic variations.
I like how you say it takes very little creativity, but you don't even upload anything to NG so really your opinion holds no water IMO.
So move along unless you have something constructive to say about it.
I look at the art every now and then, but I never review it. I saw this and looked at the rest of your pictures, they all look amazing. Keep up the good work. I wasn't going to review, but all of these pictures are so good. I love your art style. Keep up the good work.
You got two frontpagers at once! anyway I all ready exposed my passion for the new retro on ocean bird. All I have to say about this one is that is one great sultry pose. I'd take a red rocket tour any day.
No criticism. I can't find anything that bothers me.
Excellent color pallet.
you earn a 10 for sure.
and to other reviewers. STOP CALLING IT SIMPLE! IT IS CALCULATED, CONDENSED and EXAGGERATED to pull specific emotions from the viewer. usually calming and welcoming emotions.
BTW long legs are fine for sex appeal. in fact the longer the legs the better,to an extent. For some magazines with live models, they do more than just air brush away wrinkles. they would sometimes extend the legs up to 30% longer than they are in real life.
Keep up the good work.
This is really good. I wish I could draw this simple sometimes.
The design is pretty cool. The artwork is definitely something I would like to see more often. It would be cool if you did you're own cartoons. I WOULD REALLY ENJOY READING OR WATCHING ANYTHING WITH THIS STYLE!
I did also notice some artistic ignorance throughout the reviews. I guess some people don't understand that art isn't always "intense in detail" and perhaps a lot more "realistic" and a little less "plain and undetailed." Sorry, but I couldn't help but bring up that issue and would hope that there will be more art appreciation in the future.
I like how simple it is!
*Thumbs up
no shading: no borders: no background....
how did this get front page....????
Author's Response:
The ignorance astounds me. Any serious artist will tell you that not everything requires a BG and shading. Most cartoons today don't have shading..so your point is moot. :P
Nothing say a kid - adolescent series with mild flirtatious dialogue than a sexy spy girl genre.
Do I hint a presence of your personality embedded in the illustration?
Author's Response:
Of course darlin' every part of me goes into each doodle I pop out ;) Thanks!
This drawing is great! the rocket trails around her and ends next to her with the sign as if it was the logo. The devious flirtatious look she gives you. The extremly long legs :O this is amazing! congrats and you should make more! im rating FIVE!
I really like the clean style of all your works! You use space really nicely as well.
very unique and professional, i'm only disapointed that there wasn't more to go with it
Cute I like your style I think this one kind of exemplifies it.
Maybe have to long legs or to short arms, but overall composition looks cool.
Author's Response:
A bunch of people mentioned that the legs were too long, but when shortened the character looked out of proportion. I think the legs below the knee, if anything, should be shortened. I really need to fix that. Thank you :)
Very professional and business like, its clear thats the message you were delivering with this...cool..
lol long legs kinda scary wouldn't wanna get wrapped around that :O
Author's Response:
Make your reviews more constructive or don't bother posting.
i like the sexy girl and the pamphlet style
Why draw something so little when you can draw something so brilliant, big, beautiful, and bold?
Author's Response:
i r lzy.
