The People Have Spoken
Average Score: 9.4 / 10
Takes me back to those days of cartoon network.
I would always watch DExter, Powerpuff Girls, and Ed, Edd, n Eddy (my fav)
Id love to see some Ed Edd n Eddy pics XD
Also do you think you could do Tom from the older Toonami (by that i mean any of them before he got two robot friends and changed his shpe and color. I honestly cried when i saw how teh final toonami looked, because i hated it so much.)
I remember when he looked all badass in black and had a kool ship with his own personal sorta "Cortanna" person.
Those were the days of greatness
to when I watched all those cartoons!
O Wait... I still watch some of the oldies!
nice style
are you gonna draw mandark's dad now? :D
Author's Response:
I just might have to draw Windbear :O
It's amazing how you manage to create excellent pictures every time with only simple designs and shading.
This really reminds me of the times when I used to get back from school and watch Dexter or The Powerpuff Girls. It would be interesting to see how scenery will turn out using this technique. Epic job ;)
Author's Response:
Do you mean backgrounds? I have some older background pictures I did in my gallery somewhere...I need to draw cities and such more. Thanks :)
nice palette and over all shape. Is this illustrator?
Author's Response:
Photoshop 7
=)
Make that super cute and kind of sexy in a strange pink way.
So good to see people used the old retro shows, such as dexter's lab. You don't see much people bring out art from the classic cartoons anymore. The picture itself is brilliant, the hair was a great border for her face, I also like the fact you kept those half- circle eyes of hers. Will we be seeing you drawing any other retro pictures anytime soon? X)
Author's Response:
It's all I draw ;)
The best word to describe your art would be "beautifaul".
I could never get sick of your art style. Keep doing what you're doing.
Mandark's parents were awesome, I would have loved to see more of them.
I also love the hot pink and black you used in here 8D
I still love your art, and i'm amazing at how good you get so fast, you have alot of talent ^^
There are so many realists out there that want DETAIL DETAIL DETAIL!!1 one
I am so glad that there are other people out there that can appreciate work like this. Imagine reducing something too in bare essentials, then finding comparable shapes that can represent each part of the object that will appeal to the eye. It isn't easy and it shouldn't be ever be looked at as something that is "so cute and simple." I hate it when people say that about this style.
I won't spent this whole review singing praise though. I think you could have put some negative space where the armpit of the left shoulder is. If we are looking at bare shoulders, then the body shouldn't be so thick compared to the neck. If your plan was to have the whole body below be positive space, then go for it. but I think the body grabs too much attention. It would be a great place for Text or anything else with that room. A thinning on the left side of the body, not the shoulder but the body, would change it. give it a tweak and let me know what you think.
This was the first of your art that caught my attention. the others look great. This one too, but I want to see what slight pull in on the left side would do to it.
Author's Response:
I should have covered her body with her hair more now that you mention it, it is pretty blank but then again I did this in 15 minutes...haha I never expected this to get front page'd O_o.
Her left shoulder is pretty thick and I just noticed that her hair strands are over her eyelashes and that shouldn't happen...I have to fix some layers ^^
brush strokes are nice and clean. what bothers me a little is the outline of her eyes are abnormally large compared to the rest of her. besides that, the colors are great. good job.
Author's Response:
Those are her glasses ;) that's why the frames are thick
Nice! You got Front Page, and this is an AWESOME Drawing! :D
Author's Response:
thank you FP! :3 ...when'd you get here O_o
beautiful, totally captures that Dexter style while staying original, good job
-oceanbird's a lot cuter in this pic than on the show
It seems like this character and your other characters could be in a cartoon.
Good Idea is to make a studio or work along the lines of this because your artistic still is not dark and mildrid like others but happy and new
Author's Response:
This character is named OceanBird, she is from the cartoon "Dexter's Laboratory" ;) but she's not well known at all.
Thanks muchly!
You could totally get an animation job at places like Renegade Studio's.
I mean, I know thats not your primary career choice but all the same, you can always apply part time.
The fact that you got front page is proof of your artistic talent.
Imagine if your style of art was animated! Now that would be cool.
Author's Response:
HOLY CRAP I WAS FRONT PAGED?! I didn't even realize that!
...I need to learrn Flash first :D Thank you
your work reminds me alot of shag. it's a really fun style but it would be great to see you figure out a unique way to develop it because it is an extremely common aesthetic right now. heres a link to his website incase you arent already familiar.
http://www.shag.com/gallery.html
it might benefit you to explore using more eccentric color pallets and texture brushes. a solid place to look for color pallets is always the aurora borealis. just pick a random photo then sample colors till you like what you see.
where are you thinking about going with this style, out of curiosity? as they are they feel like newspaper or magazine illustrations. are they commercial at all? just for fun? just curious.
hope this helps. Keep workin!
Author's Response:
I love critiques like this because they're unbiased but not rude. I haven't ever heard of Shag, but I try to pull a lot of my style from Shane Glines (ShaneGlines.net).
I checked out Shag and I really see the resemblance now that you mention it.
I do peruse ColourLovers.com for bright palettes often...I should save them to my computer in my refrences folder.
I just do art for fun but I do sell some of my artwork for charity. I want to develop my art style for fun and to sell little commissions here and there but I don't aspire to be a famous commercial artist right now. Thanks so much!
Love your art style!
I am guessing that kid has no life.
But anyway, I like the style of your art it is just so cute. : )
