My final entry for the Sketchswap contest 2013! MaficMelody made a FANTASTIC sketch that acted as the blueprint to this. He's got a really cool style to his stuff, and he drew the girls really well...it genuinely challenged me! It was a neat exercise in attempting to make the nudity tasteful; I tried keeping in mind that it represented vulnerability.

Tried adding environments in the way background behind the dudes, and I wasn't satisfied with anything going on. Attending a "drink and draw" local meetup, though, I learned a valuable observation in cluttering the frame with too much shit, it's different details "competing for attention." So eventually, as the deadline drew near, I became content with the negative space beyond the grass...I figured it represents how alone the tortured girl in the blue dress is, and the guys do nothing to help her. It's just...empty.

...then I couldn't help myself, and I went crazy with the smoke demons...

I hope you like it!

Simply beautiful, I know all too well the cruelty of others, I'm not going to beat around the red bush, I've been on both sides of cruelty, it's hurtful when receiving and intoxicating when giving. To me this picture is telling me the water is showing how the female bully feels like, naked, sad, and all alone, as if the other girl is not even there. In the reall world though she has to be cruel to others to feel in control, to be grounded, to not lose control, screaming for help, but nobody listens! Who are the real monsters! The bullies or the ones who just watch like these two assholes in the picture! The shadows represent fear, the black shadow is being masked by her cruelty(feeling in control of others). The white shadow inside though is unmasked, it's what the girl is afraid of, when all she needs is someone to tell her she's beautiful, that she does'nt need the make-up, that she matters, and that she's loved. Until it's too late.

why is she naked???

Phobotech responds:

Quite frankly, I'm debating as much as y'all are because it wasn't my creative decision to make; ask MaficMelody.

But I like to think it represents that all bullies are as aggressive as they are because deep down, at the core of themselves, they're all incredibly vulnerable. They're compensating for their own insecurities. And there's nothing quite blaring of a vulnerability on so many levels than nudity.

Alternatively, the pool world could be a window into the realm of souls. Where we're looking at the pure content of her character, which wouldn't really need clothes....it's purity. It's the straight cut "wholeness" of the person. It's humanity...and maybe, because that stirs certain emotions within us, just LOOKING at her most private areas, it's to envoke the feeling of pity.

What do YOU feel when you see this?
