Alien Landscape I

Share

This was knocked out in an hour for my Digital Imaging I homework assignment to create an alien landscape from scratch within Photoshop.

Originally, the bulbous form that is the focal point was going to either be some sort of Akira explosion, or radiant with green energy like the Loc-Nar from Heavy Metal. Just as I was about to throw down the green light, however, I decided to be more original and keep it yellow. Additionally, all sorts of effects I tried to do within the bulb I didn't agree with...so, by keeping it simple, I left it blank. It actually makes it look like a more pure form of energy that way, and I like how it came out.

There are lots of features in this that were improvised on the fly, listening to Pink Floyd when I did the foreground, and it came out looking like a sort of grittiness I used to see all the time in comic books I read as a kid. Listening to Megadeth doing the skies and background landscape, and it wound up looking great in my opinion.

Lemme know what you guys think! What observations you've made, or features you don't particularly agree with; I want your thoughts! :D

i like it

at first i thought it was a picture of a meteor crashing into a planet from the look of the other rocks in the sky falling but reading your review and looking closely at the ring of the orb thing i can see now that it was always there. the red sky is nice bringing out the feeling of a planet on fire or about to explode and the jagged rocks around the edge of the crater gives off the hints of something crashing into that spot before the orb of power was there?
