Strange Fruit

Share

I've been wanting to do something new so I challenged myself to take a song and paint what I envision. I took Nina Simone's version of "Strange Fruit" and came up with this. I got kind of emotional as I was sketching this out. That song is just heart wrenching. I challenge my other fellow artist to partake in this.

EDIT:
OMG WOW! Frontpaged?!

I am truly honored. Thank you so much!

Reminds me of lives that could have it so much better if they had the opportunities. I've been reading about how the rich folks on this planet dodge taxes by moving their profits to tax havens, and how in turn that puts increased financial stress on everyone else! If these folk were taxed fairly we most likely wouldn't have extremes of poverty, like what this picture reminds me of. The lost potential of decent human living.

Bittersweet, beautiful piece you have here. I especially like how you did the character's skin.

Cool way to practice, ill try that sometime! as for the work, great job. I like that red and how it pulls the attention from the person to the flower. Keep it up!

Amazing!

I remember doing research on Billie Holiday and her music late last year and listening to this song; you've portrayed the song's message perfectly! I love your choice of having everything in black and white except for the blood on the flower. Absolutely beautiful, and has earned my 5/5 rating!!!
