Some essence of fear

Share

There are a lot of different "things" to catch your eye in this drawing. I used graphite, a Jet Black and sky blue light prismacolor marker and a generic white paint pen in conjunction with a black micron 005 pen.
When I think of fear, I feel like for most people fear has deep roots in one's mortality or the unknown and unseen. If this drawing cannot conjur the sense of fear in any of it's viewers, then at the very least, I am hopeful that it is cool to look at.

And to favorites, interesting how the bear is more concerned than the actual kid.

It reminds me of some of the things i myself was afraid of when i was younger like cockroaches or the darkness itself; on the transmission of a feeling of fear, well none of the characters depicted seem to be actually afraid or terrified, at best the bear seems to know that the place is not safe, but it has his shit together, however the drawing is definitively cool to look at, so many details that integrate so well with each other do for a great image.

Thanks for the feedback Doomroar. I wanted the expression on the bear to be subtle. I'm not an outwardly emotional person so most of my characters are the same way. Most importantly I want to keep away from melodrama as overstated emotions tend to feel ridiculous or comedic.
I'm pretty happy with the overall look of the drawing, I have another version in my art tab that has been edited slightly and I feel it looks a little more dimensional than this version. It's fun when you have to search over a drawing to catch all of the little details, that's something I would like to incorporate into more of my art.
Thanks again for the rating the feedback and the follow.

I really like how you incorporated everything! It flows very smoothly and doesn't seem just jumbled together. It took me a minute to catch some of the fears because there is so much going on, but it makes it interesting, not cluttered. Indeed very interesting to look at!

MsMaddHatt, thank you! I really appreciate the feedback. I spent a lot of time looking at a blank page trying to think of what to draw. It isn't a very "loud" drawing, so it might take a few glances to notice some things. Check back from time to time as I will frequently post new art.

strange, different... but very interesting :)

Os1r1s88 responds:

Thanks, I can appreciate all those remarks. :)
