I know just how painful it can be to work with pastels at times! You did a wonder full job with this, reminds me of some of the more classical work I seen in several galleries, just lacking the classical background which in a way help reintroduces realism into art field with a fresh view.
The only nit picks I have are the lack of definition in the toes, hair and the some what odd shape of the shoulders, but as I've stated before I understand how difficult pastels you are using can be.
Odd as it may seem, I think if you keep at it, you may start to be this generations version of Norman Rockwell.

The picture quality of this one is actually pretty poor, I'm hoping to get them professionally shot and updated when i have the time.

Author's Response:
Thats the ultimate goal, and it will be in one for a bit before the year is up, but framed? A 7 foot frame is a bit out of my price range at the moment.
Everything about the piece is wonderful, but the lack of background is kind of sad. Even something so simple, a wooden floor, a beach, hell; even the sky.
My favorite part of it would definitely be how the shading, gives the skin a more realistic feel, where the skin rises, where the bones are shown, that is really nice.
Author's Response:
The lack of background is intentional, its to show that you can still have a nice completed work without having to throw a background in. If you use the amount of white space correctly the figure wont appear to be floating or incomplete either. Its up to the viewer to imagine a space in place of a drawn background which forces them into a certain mindset.
Also because these are meant to be viewed in a certain kind of space in reality the lack of background works even better in those locations.
throw a naked girl in and it gets frontpage....lol
Holy crap, thats all I can say. What amazes me is your media choice. Chalk and Graphite, thats absolutely amazing. I'm not a very artistic person, but I feel as if I can appreciate good art when I see it. And I appreciate this.
I feel as if your description is the icing on the cake, too. A picture speaks a thousand words, but your description fits perfectly.
It says so little and yet so much
I think the best part about this are the colors and the range of edge relationships. I like the way you treated the hair as a mass, and the shifts in coloration are very pleasing. I tend to focus more on color than anything else in my paintings, so I'm probably your ideal audience. :3
The anatomy is close, but feels a bit awkward, similar to the other large drawing of the man lying down (though maybe not as much), but that just gets down to more careful observation; I know the figure gets exponentially harder the bigger you go, so I don't really fault you on this (I have a painting I made this semester with a shrunken head :/). I'd just say make sure you're stepping back from the work more frequently, especially in the beginning stages when you're laying out the masses. Looking at it in reverse helps too (mirror).
Anyway, it's really great to see someone dedicated to accuracy. I'd love to see this in person.
You can see how detailed it is, even if it is a simple drawing. But what matters about this piece of art is how you're about to interprete it's meaning. Some may say it's just a naked woman, others may say it's the concrete representation of shyness itself and others may think that she's even holding something on her arms, and that she doesn't want to show anyone. Her posture indicates a simple person of many thoughts. Oh, and about your skills - an unexperienced eye could say it's a photograph! That's because her body is so detailed and, not making it seem like an artificial type of detail, makes up for a 5/5.
I really love the feeling of realism and seems you din't need much colour(or am I mistaking). But why is this in mature(m+)?Don't get it?
I mean 7 feet! that means shes almost life size right? how long did this take you? may god bless your artistic soul, and may he guide you through each remaining work that you do of this size. Incredible, this art is so amazing it has turned me into a holy man, lol. And may he also bless the model who kneeled for so long, did she have padding? what is she hiding? sorry for typing so many questions but i just chugged a red bull and now i'm wired. XD
Author's Response:
Yeah thanks for noticing the size, I should really post a comparison to a live figure just to give an idea how huge it is. Also the model didn't have to sit all that long because I work largely from a series of reference photos i take.
I love how the skin tone worked out with the lighting. Her hair color looks quite nice too. I couldn't help but wonder if she's the same model I had in my figurative drawing class. This picture looks so much like her.
Author's Response:
I doubt its the same girl, unless my girlfriend is taking trips to LA during the week.
...and slightly aroused.
Author's Response:
Ingres was a neutered machine of a man with no emotion, he wasnt even aroused when he was having sex.
of a pink floyd poster i used to see a lot, i dig it
Probably the best piece of art I've ever seen on Newgrounds.
In the real truth, we are all naked when we love someone.Shy people feels allways naked.5/5
Author's Response:
Intresting way to look at it, I always like that kind of feedback from people on this series of drawings because there is so little there, yet so many meanings to be made.
Wow, just wow! Great Works!
This is pretty much awesome. You have a lot of great work here.
