Your own comment is dead on.
It needs some deeper shadows to balance out the highlights, and the background seems a bit bright and cheery for the subject.
Those notes aside, I quite like it. It looks to me a bit like a specter, and I have to say the back/spine resembles that of a seahorse fairly closely. Interesting.
