I wanted to create something in which every element didn't belong with the others - the heavy shading in the dog, the paper-like cutout white birds, the colours of the outside world and the muted colours of the girl and her books. It appears incomplete but when I went further with it, I realised that the less colours and shadings I added, the more finished it actually felt. I'm happy with it, although if I was to draw this again, I would be more careful with the dog. I would have made him flatter instead of so dense. I might return to this or draw another one.
I drew inspiration from 'The Night Train' by RYE-BREAD on deviantart ( a beautiful and charming piece of work) but attempted a different sense of whimsy.

I lost track of time as I stared at this
This is awesome.it make me feel nostalgic and there are parts that really pop and parts that give you something to watch after you stare a while. Also I feel like the image is on expensive antique paper even though its on my computer screen.I do agree about the Scottie being dense but it works out somehow. I wish I had the patience to draw like you.

wow
The tones, textures, line weight, palette... everything. Your choices in your approaches to rendering the girl and each of the animals are well thought out and very appropriate. Amazing work.
