Chicago Tribune / 50 / By: Christopher Hart

...Our family just finished preparing for Christmas Day lunch, when we felt the floor underneath us began to violently shake.

...He just stood there for what felt like an eternity on the top of the remains of what was once a seven story building next door. He looked at peace...tired. He leaned slightly on his golden axe trying to catch his breath; gripping tightly on a red bag that was punctured on two sides by the Beast's horns...

...I scrambled around for my phone hoping to capture an image of the man that just saved what ever was left of Chicago. Not being able to find it, I ran to my father's room to take one of his vintage Kodaks point and shoot along with some batteries that were lucky enough to still have a little bit of charge left in it...

...The photo that I've taken on that day was the clearest photo of The Man in Red. Everyone else who tried taking a photo ended up just capturing a bright ball of light. Because of that, I have always felt that I was chosen to fulfill a task...

...Tomorrow marks the 50th anniversary of Krumpus' defeat by the hands of Santa Claus. And over the years, as new generations are born, I've noticed that what was once history have began to be known as mere legend about a great city caught in a fight between the champions of darkness and the light.

Just a little story I came up with the Illustration. Kind of out with a severely strained wrist a few weeks ago all thanks to my clumsiness. I can't draw for a long period of time, but I can type :) Thanks for reading guys and Good luck with your submissions!!!

This is so great! My favorite part is how you made the image look like it had been weathered and damaged over time, with the crinkled and burnt edges. I can just see this being flipped on to the desk of some newspaper editor, along with the story you wrote! Personally, I entered the beginner category of the epicsanta challenge, so I have no qualms saying good luck to you! I hope you end up winning that cintiq!

mlillustration responds:

Oh wow, thank so much. Yeah, I really had fun working on this piece. Good luck in the competition.
