Camera Selfportrait

A grid based self-portrait done for my drawing class last semester. Forgot to take measurements when shooting my work from that semester but it's just standard stonehenge (22x30).
Everyone in the class always instantly assumes that you need to smudge charcoal to draw. I've been rying to avoid smudging all together in all my drawings and allow the line work to be present. I shows the hand of the artist and produces a more interesting drawing. (To me atleast)
Sadly, the grid remains in the drawing because since it was the first time working with charcoal I didn't realize charcoal doesn't stick to graphite. I now grid with charcoal.

Hands
you can charcoal them. feel privileged, this is my first 10 for non-flash work on this site. :D
I'm big on hands ... the mark of a true artist. I still hate feet though.

Thanks for the 10 and review! Yeah the grid really helps with blowing things up for me. Let's me get a sketch down quicker and allows me to focus on the shading/form. Really pleased with how the hands turned out. Never thought about drawing feet though.. lol
Pretty Great
While i don't pride myself on being an art-critic, i am able to say a few things about this. Your lines' shapes and shadows are all very good, but some areas seem oddly discolored compared to the other parts, where discoloration isn't necessary. The lighting you did is very good, as i can easily tell the light is coming from the left, but, some parts seem much more realistic and detail rich than others. Ex. The hands compared to the hair. I love the concept, and the execution, but there are slight things that make the experience a little disappointing. Also, i might not have realized the grid, had it not been pointed out. Frankly, I feel it detracts nothing from the overall work.
if I were you, i would work on the continuity of my details and shaping, but otherwise, you nailed it, dude. If i could do anything near this, I would post on the site very frequently! Sadly, I'm forced to work on my skills before i can even shine the shoes of this.

Well the hair isn't very detailed because I wanted the focus on the hands. SInce my face isn't present (covered by the camera) and it was supposed to be a self portrait, I decided that my hands represent who I am more than my actual face. Thanks for the review!
