Creature in the Fog

Share

"Creature In the Fog" can be loosely translated to "Now I know why multiply and overlay layers are reserved for works without backgrounds, and have been forced to a compromise." I actually prefer it in the end though, I spent a Hell of a lot of time on the creature, and this way there is nothing drawing your focus away from it.

This is my second entry to the Halloween art contest for 2010. I've been experimenting with new techniques in Photopork to get a more realistic look. Hope you like it!

Cool!

This is really awesome. I especially like how you can see the brush strokes up close and zoomed out, it adds to the graininess that suits a horror image. The only thing is that I'd personally would throw some silhouettes of trees in the back or something. Otherwise, awesome painting!

Dude!

This rocks! :D Keep it up. And throbbing, for that matter.

A Lil Mesmerizing

First off, the picture is great! Definitely came off as creepy and even maybe sadistic. I do get a little bit mesmerized by staring at it tho. The white highlights on the arms and ribs really help the piece pop out. Maybe there could be more of a landscape in the background. I kno its a creature in the fog but it feels like there is nothing there. But I do love the fingers. they totally make the piece work

Bravo. 5/5 9/10

Creepy.

This is disturbing on many levels.. the more you stare at it, the deeper the eyes seem, and the more menacing it seems. But there is also an element of sorrow in it too.. the streaks from the eye make it seem as though the creature has been crying, and if you really pay attention to it, it's quite thought provoking. The shading is fairly flawless, and the highlights are also nice. Very fitting for halloween, too.

I totally dig it. ;)

Thanks very much, nice review!

... this is finished?

Noooo! I thought this was a great looking WIP when I saw it in the [talk] thread :( aww I think you could have done with this/with the character.

As it stands, the hollow eyes and slight slits for the face are great, likewise the mild reddish highlights on the cold grey body, but my favourite bits the long, groping ... "pianist's" fingers. It's a shame you cropped some of the hands out.

Hope you do something more!

MiddleFingerRings responds:

The hands originally had normal size fingers, and fit on the canvas perfectly. When I made them longer, they went off canvas, which I agree is a bit of a shame.

I'll see if I can find a way past this blending layers issue I'm having and make a background, perhaps some thin trees or a delapidated town showing through the mist. Thanks for the review, very helpful!
