Simian Superheroes

It seemed logical that my first submission here on NG should showcase the characters I draw the most, so here they are - Apeman and Monkeyboy. They're the eponymous heroes of a comic created by ace writing bloke Larry Williams, his equally splendid brother Tim and myself, and this particular picture was used to promote their first mini-adventure in the pages of Bubba the Redneck Werewolf's Super Sci-Fi Special, published in 2006. Work continues apace on new stories featuring the Zoo Crusaders; quite when they'll see print is anyone's guess, but news of any exciting developments will be reported here as they develop excitingly.

Just so you know, Apeman is the big gorilla and Monkeyboy is the madly-grinning chimpanzee, and when they're not saving the world in spandex they're respectively known as Clarence and Bobo, a pair of apparently normal primates who reside in San Diablo Zoo. The circumstances surrounding their rise to superherodom are complex and peculiar; hopefully it should suffice to say that they became super-strong after being experimented on by a loony, and they got really good at building gadgets by reading lots of books when nobody was looking. (The green things attached to their belts are vine whips, which they use to swing from place to place when the mood takes them. In case you were wondering.)

This image was coloured with Karisma pencils (apart from the logo, which was done in Photoshop), a fantastically great brand which naturally got discontinued years ago. Harrumph. Still, I've since discovered some new ones called Luminance which are uncannily similar, so Hurrah! for that. Oh, and I know chimpanzees aren't actually monkeys - Bobo chose his own superhero moniker because he thought it sounded cool, despite objections from Clarence on the grounds of zoological inaccuracy. So please, no cross correspondence from pedantic wildlife fans. That includes you, Attenborough.
