If I were in that situation my first thought would be 'Holy fuck there's an octopus on my head' but it would then be overshadowed by 'Shit, im running out of air, how did I get down here in the first place?'
I would then realize it was all a dream but then remember it was one of THOSE dreams where if you poop in your dreams you poop for reals, where then I would have to change the sheets.
So congratulations, your piece made me think which is more than I can say about everything else.

The octopus could be considered a combination of the male and the female. The tentacles of the octopus are male aspect and the unseen mouth engulfing the head of our self-portrayed artist is the female aspect. The engulfing with the statement of "always on my mind" is our subject's lingering thoughts of sex. The ocean is the vastness of the world we live in both physical and spiritual. The floating could be interpreted as orgasm as I have heard dream analyst say it represents when a woman has an orgasm in a dream. I don't mean this in any disrespectful way either. If I'm looking to deep let me know.

Haha! I like it! To be honest, this image was just a quick little whimsy piece, but I enjoy your interpretation too.
(If anything, my personal interpretation of this piece might have more to do with the stranglehold that nostalgia can have on the mind. Life is a struggle between sink or swim, and sometimes we allow the past to weigh us down and keep us adrift in limbo. That said, as long as you have a sound argument any interpretation goes, and I find your interpretation quite sound.)
