The Okami Brush Gods.

I started this piece well over a year ago. I sketched it out and put down the base colours, but then got completely stumped on how to handle the painting! I've never done a piece with this many characters before and I really was intimidated by the complexity.

Fast forward to now and I happened to come across the piece buried at the bottom of my art folder and rose to the challenge of finishing it.

I'm really happy with the lighting, although I didn't use references so there's definitely gonna be some issues in places!!

Brought a tear to my, a painting of one of my most favorite games. Thank you for bringing this gorgous painting to our viewing (and background) pleasure.

Words cannot explain how awe struck I am looking at this beautiful picture! It both both elegantly and fiercely portrays the brush gods! Very well done! OMMMMMGG!

Oh my fucking gosh talk about a masterpiece!

I don't think I've ever seen a tribute to Okami this epic before! The watercolor art is amazing. It's well polished and refined my god this is

Okami is one of my all-time favorite games, so it's always nice to see some art inspired by it.

I like the sunset background, it gives the picture a very Japanese feel, though personally, I'm not a fan of the lighting. It would also have been nice if you brought the characters out a little more; now they're kind of like just posing, which makes the mood of the picture a bit bland.

Also, I have to nitpick a little here: Hanagami is a TRIO of flora gods... so it's three monkeys, not just one. Tsutagami and Sakigami need some love too!

Louise-Goalby responds:

I am fully aware that there is a trio of flora gods. However, I didn't want the piece to be too crowded, and as they are kinda all linked together, I thought I would chose one of them to represent all three. It was a thought out, concious decision.

In terms of the posing, I agree with you. However I did sketch this practically two years ago, and I was working with what I already had. Still, my anatomy and posing is a major weakpoint of mine and is something I am going to be focusing on!! :)
