I thought that this was a pretty simple concept: a short animation of segmented, pixely isometric cubes that expand and contract (in pulsing manner) with each step of the animation the cubes transition to another color in the visible spectrum and dithering transitional colors (i.e. blue to green). Simple idea. It didn't take more than 10 min to conceptualize, it shouldn't take too long to render, right? Wrong. This took a ridiculous number of hours to complete. I hope you enjoy.

I used the G.I.M.P (the GNU Image Manipulation Program). It's open source and pretty powerful for non-commercial software. It allows you to render a series of layers as an animated gif, which is what I did for this and my "Unfolding Cubes" piece. I'm glad you liked it.

Interesting
I think it would help if the animation held the full cube shape for a little bit longer, just enough to really be able to look at it. Just a thought.

Yeah, I agree. As it is, the animation loop slows down by a couple hundred milliseconds when it reaches the full cube, but it isn't long enough to get a good view. The problem I was having was getting the background animation to not look too out of sync with the cube or slow the overall animation too much. I made a compromise to balance things as best I could. If I do another version, I'm going to scratch the animated background and color shift altogether and just focus on the cube transformation. Thanks for the feedback.
