Journey Out of Hell/Hunt for a Ghost. Two parallel stories.
Love it. I've been that guy and had an ex-gf who was that girl. I turned my laptop upside down to see it from her perspective. Just as good. Love the whole taoist/ yin-yang tones.
He's out in the streets lookin' for something to amuse or fulfill him - she's trapped in her internal world filled with books and longing/grief.... the balance is spot on. Am I close in the idea you were going for?

Thanks! I love your interpretation. The actual story is more specific though and fits in the same world as the sloppy animation I did. His story takes place in a dystopian reality where he is investigating a series of strange murders that the more superstitious believe were carried out by the ghost of a sacrificed girl. Her story takes place inside her head as she tries to escape a Hellish Wonderland-esque landscape.
