Avarice

Share

Avarice is yet another vice that constantly hounds us as people. It grips its fingers into our brain and controls our desires. It tangles us in a web of temptation and hatred of ourselves, much like how fashion invokes similar feelings in young women. As noted by the linework that entangles the three circles within, it's a difficult thing to escape from, but it is indeed possible. After all, look at the Franciscan order of monks, who absolutely refuse wealth, and the homeless, the noble but stupid savages of modern society.

The three circles represent all walks of life, their creeds, their culture, their religions. It is represented by the circle, the Ouroboros with no beginning or end. This was done in response to the American, French, and Russian Revolution. All three were tied by the same motive: freedom from the greed and tyranny of the old order. In this respect, Avarice shows that the old order must be broken in order to create a new freer world. After all, how else will we all become homeless?
