A difference in shaders

Share

Left - Cycles
Right - Blender Internal

Different shaders applied to the same model.

The left uses hard cell shading where colour is mapped according to set value ranges. A back face culling approach is used to achieve the model outlines.

The right uses smoother colour transitions for shading. A type of edge detection was used for the model outlines, allowing for details within the model to be displayed(as seen on his shirt and collar). A small amount of colour correction was done on during the composition of the image.

Let me know which side you like better.

For me I like elements from both versions. I like the more flat black of the outfit on the left side, though I think it could a little shading, but I like the shirt on the right version better. I like the hair on the right better than the left but I like the mouth on the left better than the one on the right?

Maybe somehow do a combination of both if possible?

karismaticprik responds:

Thanks. The mouth on the right doesn't have any lighting applied to it so it appears black. Combining them would take some work, but I'll keep that in mind for the future.
