My Piranha Plant, her baby and a few friends (Paranoid Carrot and Green Thumbs).
I've noticed a few people getting rated "useless review" for pointing out the price. For those wondering about the starting bid, sculptures take a lot of time, skill and effort. This piece in particular took about five months of sculpting and three weeks of intense painting. Had I been paid hourly (at non-skilled minimum wage) I would have made twice the starting bid. I understand some of you may not be familiar with the usual prohibitively high prices for original art (mostly too high for me to acquire as well) but please do not confuse this with a toy. Todd McFarlane's sculptors do not get paid cheap for their original sculpts either - the replicas are cheap because it's just a plastic copy of a pricey sculpt. I'm sure it's be nice for many if it sold at $100 but the materials alone cost more than that. Practicing a deeply time-consuming skill, sculptors should be paid well enough at least to cover the bills, don't you think?

In creating the mother, I based my design on this question: Had it been based on a real living plant, what would it look like?
For the baby, I followed the exact same steps except I applied softer textures, brighter colors and a teething mouth.
I used clay, a strengthened wire skeleton and a special mix of acrylics to get the right appearance of flesh (particularly the inside of the mouth).

But this is really good, highly detailed, and incredibly realistic. You did a really good job and i'm really impressed cuz i love clay/ceramic art. what's your next project?
Author's Response:
Metroid baby :)
dude man next u should make a life size petey piranha that would be so ballin man and that would be somethin 2 see or a koopa troopa but good work and keep it up. (5!)
I love the baby!
If I had the money, I'd totally buy the mama and baby!
You can't separate them! :(
:D Again, amazing work! Keep up the great work. This world needs more of awesome artists like you.
Thats the coolest sculpture i have ever seen!! and how much did it cost to build?
Author's Response:
Getting everything half off with special discounts, a little over $100.
I've been waiting for damn long to see something like that in a garden :p
It's almost impressive that the head of the mature plant doesn't fall off.
The lips are really well done too.
F.ck, I'd like that in my garden... if I had one :p
"No photographs! We recognize photography as an artistic endeavor, but we have chosen to focus on hand-made works. "
this is a pixer!

Feel free to read the Q/A:
Q: No photographs? What about a photo of a painting I did in real life?
A: A photograph of a sculpture, painting, or some other piece of art you have made are in fact exceptions to this rule. Feel free to submit scans and photographs of your art if it's not already in a digital format.
Uhmm its $1,400 for a reason lol? i'de love to see you do that haha
any way very awesome Sculpture i want it!
:3
Author's Response:
If I'd been paid equal to a minimum wage, non-skilled job for the amount of hours that went into it (nevermind the skill needed and the cost of materials) I would have charged between $2,700 and $3,000. It's not a mass-produced plastic toy - it's a one-of-a-kind original sculpture. Original art is expensive for a reason.
So maybe you're wondering why I'm charging so cheap for a starting bid? ;)
this is magnificent
i admire you attention to even the smallest of details, and even though this is a great sculpture i think $1,400 is just a bit to pricey.
also that baby plant is very cute
i hope to see more of your works later on and keep up the great work! :D
That's so cute :D
Nice work. Since this falls into a comic genre, 1,400 seems a bit steep. A bit below half of that and this item might sell quite quickly. I think your sci-fi illustration is excellent. It is small also, so I'd recommend keeping the price low. I understand these are your babies, but you want to sell them as first -timers. as you become well known and or popular, your prices may also rise as the sun does. Good Luck
dude u brought the pirana plant to life!!!!
this is awsome man!!!
Man those sculptures look incredible, I mean the quality and detail in them is amazing.
10/10 No doubt.
P.S
$1'400 dollars for the sculpture? I may not know much about sculptures but seriously bring down the price for that thing
Awesome!
i love you ^^, that is truly the definition of hard work and dedication
Wow... you are absolutely great man... I saw the video, and.. I just can't believe how good you are.
The realistic end is incredible, and the attention you've put into details is astonishing. I can't have enough words to let you know how much I admire your work, and believe me, I know how hard it can be to modelate something because I am a sculpture artist too... but i feel like a frikin noobie-babie at your side... I even feel bad about wanting to submit what I've done :( I'm no way not even in the same league as you are... Did you go to some school or are you a self-taught artist? Either way, you're awesome!
My friend and I have a little tiny company where we sculpt characters from comics and movies and sell them at Conventions, but when I showed her your video her jaw dropped.
You are not God... God was Stan Winston, but you are like the Jesus of modeling ^_^
Again: CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Your fan, Tekno.-
ps: would you be kind to be more specific about how you got that end on the mouth? I would appreciate it very, very much (in fact, any advice would be absolutely welcomed). Thanks in advance.-
Author's Response:
Holy crap - I'm Jesus to Stan Winston's God?! That's an epic compliment of Biblical proportions! :D
Use gloss finish for shiny, wet surfaces - just be careful not to overdo it (it gets clumpy).
Those are really, really cool. If Piranha Plants were real, I'm betting it'd look like this.
Also, lol at the carrot.
i hope they dont eat me
There is very limited words that can be explained about this image. The one
that comes to my mind firstly is... EPIC.
This just shows the way of life... In mario world. XD
make more
Down right incredible, you have talent beyond words.
Love it, and Charak art comes in many forms. It just doesn't come in pencil and paper.
Yes, it is awesome work, but it doesnt belong in the NG art portal at all, its more like a youtube tihng, or BBS thread
Author's Response:
I'm glad to say it is Featured Art on the front page. I think NewGrounds staff is very well aware of what does and what does not belong in the Art Portal.
From HELP/FAQ (emphasis is mine):
Q: No photographs? What about a photo of a painting I did in real life?
A: A photograph of a SCULPTURE, painting, or some other piece of art you have made are in fact exceptions to this rule. Feel free to submit scans and photographs of your art if it's not already in a digital format.

I love it, but I wish its head was more round. D:
truly...that is something very extraordinary. Phenomenal work!!! there is some talent here...
its awesome!!!! sweeettt!!!
incredibly brilliant work. It looks, although not 100% real, better than anything anyone else on this planet could make. May I make a suggestion towards future work? It would take a lot of time and money, but would be wonderful to see on newgrounds. Could you possibly make a whole Mario scene? I know it seems a huge undertaking, but I would love to see it, and I know others would too. At any rate, thank you for sharing your talent with us. It is much appreciated.
I hate your superior skillz!! I will go cry now.
