That time in your life as an artist that you realized you've been using line paper XD
A user had a cool idea of redrawing old pictures to see if you've improved. So I wanted to try for myself and see if I made any improvements or style changes over the last 5 years.
Its pretty crazy how styles and tastes change over the course of years!
Try it for yourself! Its fun and opens your eyes a bit!
This character was one of the first ones I ever made. Yes, he's a spitting image of Big Boss from the MGS series. I modeled him after Naked Snake in MGS3, but made him his own character.
Jack was pretty much everything you wanted in a hero: tough, empathetic, and nearly invincible. But as I got older I sort of took aspects of his personality and made who new characters out of it. Sort of a release, you know?
...I was 16 :P
(I did it in black and white to stay true to the original pictures color scheme)

I sure know why I follow you here on NG, mate, you are really talented. Told you that a comic would be your kind of thing. Great artwork, I envy your talent ;)
This is also a very cool way to show how you have improved. Good job!
Thanks amigo, I appreciate the compliment! Basically your comment there about the comics helped me realize the work I needed to do on my drawing altogether so really dude, thank you!
But this, all of this, is just practice, practice, practice. This is all about getting works and concepts together so I might be able to cobble together something that I can show to get me admitted somewhere. So I still need work. And lots of it :P
nice dude
Thanks!
Nice work, man! You had all the basics covered in the first drawing, and you even included shadowing by using manual smudging! Not bad!
He looks *really* bad-ass! He actually reminds me a bit of Wernher from Fallout 3!
But maybe that's just me. Here's a pic: http://img4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20111222120948/fallout/images/3/3a/Wernher.jpg
Yeah, I was 16 years old and strove for realism like hell. I still like some aspects about it, although the nose irritates the hell out of me >_<
And yeah, he does resemble him!
Cool! Nice progression.
I regard all three as different styles altogether, but your overall design is always there, straight from the start. Kudos! :)
Thanks! If you draw, then you must try this out sometime :D
