The Skein!

An order of enchanted knights tasked to take out dragons. When they’re out of dragons they start combining with each other through dueling or submission. Every victory transfers the flesh, armor, and experience of the loser onto the ever expanding bulk of the champion. That's why that one guy is so big and has a whole bunch of sachels.

So is the small guy wins, does he get all of the big guy's substance? That seems like it'd be uncomfortable.

This is another neat little story! I'd like to imagine that the combining happens to counter the dragons that bide their time and grow larger in hibernation. When a big dragon appears, the largest knight takes the lead on the dragon while the lesser knights investigate a possible brood.

I actually made them start combining after they go crazy because there is no more dragons but your idea is a lot more interesting! good one!
